I'm binge watching futurama while pretending to write a report. I really wish they'd cancelled The Simpsons instead...

I'm betting the suspension replacement was for squeeks-quite common. The car has a strange suspension layout-a whole bunch of arms with ball joints on each end. (with no provision to grease) And bushings that like to get squeeky. It would be next to impossible to pick out which one is making noise-so change'em all. There are complete kits availible out there.

I can't believe I'm actually citing Demuro... http://dougdemuro.kinja.com/german-reliabi…

It's by far the best description of "Superior German Engineering" I've ever read.

Is it a new air suspension, or did they convert to coils? In allroad air suspension land, 60k isn't new...60k is where the bags start to wear out. Mine managed 150k before one bag totally failed, and that was a MIRACLE. The compressor should be fine with 60k, but you'll probably be replacing those bags in 30k miles.

of all the audi products, that motor was the worst. bar. none. seriously. an absolute peach when built up a little and maintained...but a freaking NIGHTMARE otherwise

Entirely new air suspension, hopefully they got a new compressor too.

I see I read you wrong, new bags at 60k. It'll be due for a timing belt soon. If that's been done, I highly recommend it...my allroad was all time favorite car.

I bought mine with just under 100K, drove it for almost 4 years, and finished up with 160k. When I bought it, it needed the compressor for the suspension, so I replaced it. The car was 100% trouble free up to 158k, when the alternator died...and even then, it was such a good damn car that when the alternator died on a highway off ramp 20 minutes from my house, the car ran until I turned into my driveway, where it promptly died before I came to a stop.

So while I was in there doing the alternator, I decided to to the timing belt...it had been done at 90k, and there's a lot of redundant work there, so it would have been foolish to not do it. Unfortunately, the front of the car was on jack stands for the better part of a month and it seems like that hanging down is what did in my left front airbag. When I put the car back together, the compressor ran almost constantly and the left front never came up past level 2. That's when I decided to part with it.

I put it on eBay, hoping to get $1800 for it. Of course the Audi being the Audi and taking care of me no matter what, I got $3300 for the car.

Best car I've ever owned. But if you have to do anything on the front of the engine, you'll be removing the whole front of the car. Totally worth it for that 2.7T though...God what an engine, and with a 6 speed? Forget about it, fantastic cars.

If you've got a bit of a cash cushion, These weren't horrible cars though.

Shit I might get one then, many Audis have that whole take the front apart thing apparently . I was planning on selling one of my Citroens and buying something from the 80's, 740i, S-Class, XJ6/8, P38, but I've recently started to crave an Allroad. They seem like incredible cars. The only problem is that I'm also replacing my Tribeca, very likely with something air supensioned, so yeah 3 cars with air suspension.

I have and as I was planning on buying something from the 80's (7 series, P38, S-Class, 164) expensive maintenance was sorta expected already.

Honestly, if the whole system is new, you've got about 60k where you don't need to worry about it. The bags were never done in mine when I got it, so 3 of the 4 were still fine at 160k...but that's the exception, not the rule.

About the only thing mine didn't have was nav. It's still the only car I've owned with a heated steering wheel, and it also had the solar panel moonroof that ran the blower motor to keep the car cool inside in the sun. Here's my former allroad:

Kinja'd!!!

Atlas Gray, the optional 17" wheels. Man, I hadn't thought lately about how much I miss my allroad...but I miss my damn allroad.

The one I'm looking is almost like that, the one in the link, not sat and the wheels look a bit different. It would also be my car with heated steering wheels.

Gotta love heated steering wheels...I'm frankly shocked and disappointed that my Corvair doesn't have one, haha. If the price is right, I say go for it. You won't find a bigger supporter of the allroad on Oppo than this guy right here.

Yeah, my Citroen should have one, it has hydra and parking space size analyzer, it sure as hell should have a heated steering wheel dammit!

I hesitate to say this, but in terms of the suspension, yes. The Arnott replacement bags we've installed in several have been problem free for years, and that includes other applications like BMW & MBZ systems. I won't defend the rest of the car, though the 2.7T is a good engine often let down by poor maintenance. K03 turbos are junk, let down by their own poor lubrication & cooling. Replacing them requires engine removal. The front suspensions rarely make it past 50k without requiring upper arms at least. The automatics rarely make it past 125k or so, because they were called "Lifetime" filled, which is bullshit. They'll do 200k+ with fluid every 50k or so.
